Antisemitic Critic Tricks Critics into Raising Money for him

http://nypost.com/2017/04/26/anti-semitic-politician-tricks-critics-into-raising-money-for-him/   Thomas Lopez-Pierre is running for City council in Upper Manhattan, New York. Part of Lopez Pierre’s promise to potential voters is to stop “greedy Jewish landlords from committing ethnic cleansing against blacks.” Many local Jews have called for Pierre-Lopez’s dismissal from the democratic party. Pierre-Lopez started a GoFundME page, against himself. The GoFundMe page titled, Stop Thomas Lopez-Pierre Hate Campaign, raised over $5,000. The money that was raised was thought to be used in ad campaigns against Lopez-Pierre, however the money would go into Lopez-Pierre’s campaign funds. Lopez-Pierre posted a video on his campaign website of himself standing outside fellow city council candidate, Mark Levine, claiming him and Upper Manhattan is controlled by Jewish landlords who are trying to push out blacks and hispanics. The funds  raised on GoFundMe are frozen and an investigation is underway.   This has to be one of the most deceitful things I’ve seen in politics. To start a misleading GoFundMe page and think you can get away with it is beyond comprehension. Also to show up at a your opponent’s office and spew such antisemitic hatred is disrespectful and uncalled for. As far as his position in the democratic party is concerned, he should be immediately expelled. I’m surprised this type of antisemitic rhetoric is coming from the left (when it’s not related to Israel), especially in an racially integrated urban area. Considering much of Upper Manhattan has Jewish residents, it was pretty stupid and insensitive to use antisemitic language to get votes.   Hate Speech, Upper Manhattan, NY, New York Post, Carl Campanile, April 26, public...

Princeton University Antisemitic Fliers

The article I am writing about this week was posted by centraljersey.com on April 21st, 2017. It describes an incident that took place at Princeton University earlier this week. Princeton’s Center for Jewish Life and a few other buildings were the target of antisemitic and racist fliers. Callers reported a masked individual taping fliers to buildings late Thursday night. The exact message on the fliers is yet to be released but it says they contained the phone number and name of a white nationalist organization along with other antisemitic messages. Thursday, April 20th was also the Birthday of Adolf Hitler and that is likely a contributing factor for when the incident took place. On the same day, Vanguard America, a white nationalist group posted a message that targeted Jewish Princeton students and showed  a picture of Hitler with a birthday hat. Both of these incidents seem to be extremely antisemitic, but I am a little disappointed in this school/website for not being more clear about the content of the tweets and fliers. While I understand why they may choose not to disclose the contact information of the group who was behind these events, I think there is importance to sharing the content of what was said. I say this because although it can be disheartening (and unfortunately inspiring for antisemitic individuals), sharing what is said can help create an understanding that this is a serious problem and that antisemitism is very much alive. It can also show how Jewish students still face frequent discrimination, even at the most prestigious Universities in the country....

SPLC sues neo-Nazi leader who targeted Jewish woman in anti-Semitic harassment campaign

(https://www.splcenter.org/news/2017/04/18/splc-sues-neo-nazi-leader-who-targeted-jewish-woman-anti-semitic-harassment-campaign \ Andrew Anglin, one of the founders of The Daily Stormer, launched a “troll storm” against a Montanan a Jewish Real Estate agent . Tanya Gersh, of Whitefish, Montana, and her family have received over 700 messages. Gersh’s abuse began after another alt-right leader, Richard Spencer, accused her of extorting money from his mother. Gersh is suing Anglin for harassment, invasion of privacy, and emotional distressed caused by Anglin’s army of trolls. The Daily Stormer, is one of the most popular and widely read antisemtic websites. Websites such as this have been responsible for harassment and intimidation of numerous minorities and individuals like Gersh. Anglin posted an article on the website with the headline, “Jews Targeting Richard Spencer’s Mother for Harassment and Extortion – TAKE ACTION!” In addition the article linked pictures of Gersh and her family, along with her contact information. Obviously, the fact that a woman and her family was unfairly targeted and harassed is a sad and wrong thing. However, this is one of the few cases where someone responsible for hate speech, harassment, and intimidation is actually being held responsible. So while this whole incidence is completely unnecessary and unprovoked, at least some sort of justice will be made. Unfortunately, this website and other similar sites will continue to do things like this, but perhaps if consequences for such actions are taken, people like Anglin will think twice about what they write.   Southern Poverty Law Center, No author, April 18th, 2017, Alt-right/hates peech, Whitefish,...

Ted Nugent Invited to the White House

Washed-up wacko rocker Ted Nugent visited the White House Wednesday, April 19 alongside Sarah Palin and Kid Rock. The tour of the house was then followed by an intimate dinner with the President. Nugent, having once been investigated by the secret service for posting threatening and hate filled messages about former President Obama on social media, was welcomed the White House with open arms despite his consistent racism and anti-Semitism. Nugent has a long history of ranting on twitter about whatever bigoted statements are running around his head. He has posted complaints about the Jews taking away his guns, as well as having continuously attacked Obama and Hilary Clinton, making himself look like a cyber-bullying high-school aged conspiracy theorist hate monger. His online propaganda has hit both twitter and Facebook, so intensely that he was visited by secret service agents to investigate the threats he made against the former leader of the free world. Ted Nugent has a right to say and post whatever he wants, despite ruining his reputation to anyone with common sense. The NRA member’s status flipped drastically in the span of a year: at one time regarded by our government as a potential security threat, and at another an honored guest of our current President. As stated, Nugent can say and do what he wants, but under no circumstances should such a man ever be welcomed to spend time and dine with the President of the United States in his home. Trump inviting Nugent speaks volumes to his morals and what kinds of company he likes to keep. Although, Trump and his cabinet do have a...

Hitler ‘Birthday Party’ Thrown at the University of Oregon

According to a local CBS station for Eugene, Oregon, a pair of self-proclaimed white nationalist men caused a campus uproar at the University of Oregon on the morning of April 20th as they attempted to celebrate the birthday of Adolf Hitler. Two men, Jimmy Marr and ‘Chad’, reportedly parked a swastika-emblazoned truck in the heart of campus while promoting a Holocaust denial film. On the tailgate of the truck was a message that read: “No more terror. No more war. America, stop being Israel’s whore” (News Staff). According to the Eugene Weekly, Jimmy Marr—owner of the truck—is well known as a racist and antisemite and his truck has repeatedly been seen around Oregon displaying messages such as “Jews Lies Matter” and “Trump: Do the White Thing” (Nguyen). When Marr and his friend appeared on campus to supposedly throw Hitler a ‘birthday party,’ officers did not engage the men, but members of the campus community were photographed shouting at the men and attempting to debate their presence. Rabbi Jack Melul—director of the Jewish educational and social group Akiva on campus—even sang “The Jewish people are still alive” in Hebrew while Marr and Chad were engaged in an argument with students. After about 45 minutes on campus, the pair voluntarily drove away and their leave was met with applause. According to campus police, the pair acted within the legal boundaries of free speech and their truck was parked legally. Despite the fact that there were no other physical ‘birthday parties’ thrown in Adolf Hitler’s honor, Forward reports that many neo-nazis took to the internet in celebration of the dictator’s birthday on...

Neo-Nazi Sued

Andrew Anglin, founder of prominent neo-Nazi website, was sued by the SPLC this week for the role he played in organizing a harassment campaign against a Jewish woman and her family. According to splccenter.org, the family has received more than 700 anti-Semitic messages since December. Anglin’s website, The Daily Stormer, posted contact information and family pictures, starting the harassment campaign with “Let’s Hit Em Up. Are y’all ready for an old fashioned Troll Storm? Because AYO- it’s that time fam.” The harassment for the Gersh family began immediately, receiving messages such are “thanks for demonstrating why your race needs to be collectively ovened” and “We are going to track you for the rest of your life.” These messages also included deeply disturbing images such as a drawing of the Gersh family being gassed. Anglin even went so far to attempt to plan an armed march with the final destination being Gersh’s home. The idea of such a strong hatred to the point of being able to motivate an group of people to say and do such disgusting and unimaginable things shows how set anti-Semitism is in some peoples beliefs. This kind of hate is fueled by pure ignorance and hatred, and with our current political climate these kinds of occurrences are appearing more often. Anglin’s website is very pro-trump and do many acts of hatred in his name. This is why it is so important for Trump and his administration to condemn acts of anti-Semitism and stress that importance.   https://www.splcenter.org/news/2017/04/18/splc-sues-neo-nazi-leader-who-targeted-jewish-woman-anti-semitic-harassment-campaign      ...
