Ted Nugent Invited to the White House

Washed-up wacko rocker Ted Nugent visited the White House Wednesday, April 19 alongside Sarah Palin and Kid Rock. The tour of the house was then followed by an intimate dinner with the President. Nugent, having once been investigated by the secret service for posting threatening and hate filled messages about former President Obama on social media, was welcomed the White House with open arms despite his consistent racism and anti-Semitism. Nugent has a long history of ranting on twitter about whatever bigoted statements are running around his head. He has posted complaints about the Jews taking away his guns, as well as having continuously attacked Obama and Hilary Clinton, making himself look like a cyber-bullying high-school aged conspiracy theorist hate monger. His online propaganda has hit both twitter and Facebook, so intensely that he was visited by secret service agents to investigate the threats he made against the former leader of the free world. Ted Nugent has a right to say and post whatever he wants, despite ruining his reputation to anyone with common sense. The NRA member’s status flipped drastically in the span of a year: at one time regarded by our government as a potential security threat, and at another an honored guest of our current President. As stated, Nugent can say and do what he wants, but under no circumstances should such a man ever be welcomed to spend time and dine with the President of the United States in his home. Trump inviting Nugent speaks volumes to his morals and what kinds of company he likes to keep. Although, Trump and his cabinet do have a...

Biker hands out anti-Semitic cartoons

On April 16th, 2017 the New York Post says that there was a biker who was handing out antisemitic cartoons around the area of Orthodox Williamsburg. These messages consisted of swastikas and anti-Semitic cartoons from the back of his hog. A citizen of Williamsburg was quoted  saying “It’s painful to see that during Passover. It’s always painful,” said Williamsburg native Moses Moskowitz, 25, who didn’t see the incident firsthand. “It brings back memories from my parents and grandparents who saw those things during WWII.” The flyers contained the Nazi symbol alongside racist cartoons and captions describing Jews as “born nation-wreckers” who are perpetuating the “Holocaust myth.” They also had a drawing that was “Qvickly! Qvickly! Ve must keep ze lid on! Ze truth is gedding out!” one man wearing a Star of David is shown saying. This man has not been caught and the NYPD classified this as a hate crime and are looking further into it. Agreeing with what people in the article said, i do not get how people just wake up and say i am going to go out in public and spread all of this hate around my community. I am unsure of whether this event was inspired by the holiday of Passover, or if it was a random act, but i hope the NYPD does not just push this to the side, but take action to catch this guy, and prosecute him. I also wonder how serious the charges would be or if it would be more of a slap on the wrist. http://nypost.com/2017/04/16/biker-hands-out-anti-semitic-cartoons/ Prendergast, Daniel, Shari Logan, and Ruth Brown. “Biker Hands out Anti-Semitic Cartoons.” New York Post. Can Jews Be Antisemitic?

The recent arrest of the teenage Israeli citizen and his link to bomb threats of more than 100 Jewish institutions has many now posing the question, can Jews be antisemitic? Forward covers this issue in their recent article, What Happens When Jewish Anti-Semitism Causes Terror, and claims that this development is a “blind spot in our understand of antisemitism” (Eisner). I found this was very interesting because, this was something we had covered in class briefly and hadn’t really came to a definite conclusion. The article claims that the emergence of this instance of Jews terrorizing other Jews is something we have seen before and is rooted in the political context of the period, and in this case the election of Donald Trump. They compared it to the “tragic 1995 assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and its creation of a crazed ideological opponent” (Eisner). An important message this article shares is that while we might have an answer to the bomb threats, other domestic threats still remains. The defacing of the cemetery in Philadelphia and the vandalism of a New York subway are still very real events without answers and this arrest shouldn’t take away from the reality of these incidents. The author, Jane Eisner, ended by stating that the arrest of this Israeli teenager can teach us all a lesson in avoiding jumping to conclusions and that no group is immune from the terror within. This lesson is important in the current American context for all minorities facing terror from in and outside of their communities. It is my hope that we can look back to this issue and further discuss...

Trump Sends 12 FBI Agents to Israel for JCC Bomb Threat Suspect

An article by Haaretz, published on March 26th 2017, stated that Trump sent 12 FBI agents, from the cybercrime unit, to Israel to assist the Israeli investigation of the JCC bomb threat suspect. The person suspected of calling in hundreds of bomb threats to JCC a crossed America is a 19 year old Israeli- American from the city of Ashkelon. As of now, the suspect is using his right to keep quiet and, according to the article, the suspect “has so far refused to talk about anything except the fact that he is sick.” (Kubovich) Police are having a difficult time breaking into the suspects computers, but they hope they will get access to them soon. The police have determined that the suspect would call in a bomb threat and then watch the news to see the kind of affect it had on the community and country. If he saw that the threat was given a lot of attention, he would make similar calls to other JCC’s close by. The police said that the suspect had made even more threats, but the news never reported them and moved on to other places where he made threats. According to the article, he had started calling in threats over various places in Israel over two years ago. However, in 2017 he focused on American JCC’s because they attracted the most attention.  Currently, there has been no request by the FBI for extradition and Israeli forces said they would accede if a request is made. I think the USA should ask for extradition and I think, if convicted, the 19 year old...

100-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Speaks Out about Recent Anti-Semitism Increase

A CNN article written by Barbara Starr posted at 10:41 pm on Friday, March 17 2017 describes how Fanny Aizenberg, 100-year-old Holocaust survivor spoke to 200 students at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Aizenberg discussed the recent increase in anti-Semitism and JCC bomb threats, having been the largest and most significant anti-Jewish actions since she experienced Nazi-occupied Belgium. Aizenberg lives next door to a JCC that was threatened, and says the increase in Jewish desecration kills her. Diane Saltzman, a woman who works with Aizenberg and other survivors at the Museum, says that all the people affected by the bomb threats have adopted attitudes of determination and refusal to give in to these cowardly threats. Survivors of the Holocaust have already experienced the culmination of Jewish hatred, and will not accept the fear these hate mongers try to instill in the Jewish community. Fanny Aizenberg is an outstanding citizen and deserves widespread respect. She was able to escape the Nazis and Auschwitz, and was able to reconnect with her daughter years after separating during the Holocaust. She has lived an incredibly long life and now the absurd anti-Semitism she experienced nearly 80 years ago is back in a different form. I feel so sorry for her and others like her who still have to worry about threats of violence toward Jews so long after their entire existence was threatened. I initially thought society had made serious progress in history toward acceptance of the Jews, but seeing Holocaust survivors still worrying about safety for their people makes me think society hasn’t learned a thing. http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/17/politics/holocaust-survivor-anti-semitism-bomb-threats/ Starr, Barbara. “Holocaust Survivor Confronts Resurgence in...

Donald Trump Nazi Poster

While Donald Trump may not be as aggressive against antisemitism as most would prefer, there is no reason for an immature person to make a billboard comparing Donald Trump to a Nazi.  Donald Trump did not kill six million Jews and did not have any responsibility in the evolution of the Holocaust.  This information was brought to light by the official Anne Frank Center twitter.  The account made it very clear that they do not stand for this sort of propaganda and civil rights abuse.  The sign depicts of a picture of the acting president, Donald Trump, in front of a red background and directly to his side is a money sign that bares a resemblance to a swaztika.  There are more than enough problems in the world right now, and some idiot who thinks its informative or even funny to post a board with Trump and Nazi rhetoric is just a disgrace to the entire country.  I believe that advertisement such as this board will do nothing but help encourage further actions that will not only hurt the entire Jewish community but the country as a whole.  Antisemitism is a form of hate that has to be pulled up from the roots, simply picking the leaves will not help.  If you pull the weed and do not get the root, another event or antisemitic situation is bound to occur again.  I know I say this a lot on these posts, but if the country’s leadership would just denounce antisemitic hate, then that could serve as the beginning for a drastic decrease in hate crime. Twitter...
